A lockout hasp is a group lockout device also known in the field as a padlock multiplier, LOTO hasp multiplier or LOTO hasp. It is fitted into the lockout hole of a circuit breaker, valve or plug lockout device and turns a single isolation point into a point where many people can fit their padlocks. Each worker on the maintenance team adds their own safety padlock to one of the empty holes on the hasp.

The safety logic of the system is simple: as long as a single lock remains on it, the jaw of the lockout hasp cannot be opened. Even if a technician who has finished their job removes their lock, energy cannot be restored while someone on the team is still working. For this reason the lockout hasp is the core component of group maintenance applications where several people work on the same machine.

At Sofilx, we supply many lockout hasp models with vinyl-coated steel, aluminum, stainless steel and non-conductive plastic bodies, 25 mm and 38 mm jaw openings, tag-equipped and sliding versions.

Product guide

Types of Lockout Hasps

Vinyl-coated steel jaw models

The strong steel jaw is protected by vinyl coating; it reduces slipping and does not scratch the surface it is fitted to. It is the group most often preferred in everyday LOTO applications.

Aluminum body models

Its light weight makes it easy to carry; vinyl-coated, double-jaw and large-slide versions are available.

Non-conductive plastic models

Thanks to their insulating bodies, they can be used safely at panel and circuit breaker points that carry electrical risk.

Stainless and rust-resistant steel

A corrosion-resistant solution for food, chemical and outdoor applications with moisture, chemicals and washdown conditions.

Lockout hasps with tag

The writable area on the body combines lockout and warning in a single piece and reduces the need for a separate tag.

Thermal switch lockouts

Lockout devices designed specifically for thermal overload and motor protection switches.

  • Team size: Take the largest team that will work at the same point at the same time as the basis, and choose a model with enough holes for it.
  • Jaw size: A 25 mm jaw suits standard lockout devices, while a 38 mm jaw suits thick handles and wide holes.
  • Body material: In electrical panels prefer non-conductive plastic; in damp or chemical environments prefer a stainless steel body.
  • Tagging: If you want the warning information to stay with the padlock, choose a model with a tag on the body.
  • Over capacity: If the number of people exceeds the capacity of a single lockout hasp, chain several lockout hasps together or move to a group lock box.
  • Compatibility: Check that the lockout hasp fits easily through the lock hole of the breaker, valve or plug lockout you are using.
Applications

Where Are Lockout Hasps Used?

Group maintenance shutdowns

Used in planned maintenance where several technicians work on the same machine or line at the same time.

Electrical panels and breakers

By attaching to the circuit breaker lockout device, it allows each electrician to add their own lock.

Valves and pipelines

Used together with valve lockouts, it enables fluid lines to be isolated as a group.

Shift changes

Makes controlled handover easier, as one shift can apply its locks without the other shift having to remove theirs.

Are lock multiplier, lockout hasp and hasp the same product?
Yes. All of these names refer to the same LOTO device that lets several people fit their own padlocks to a single isolation point.
How are lockout hasp prices determined?
The price varies by body material, jaw size, number of holes and order quantity. For a current quote, you can message the product code and quantity to our WhatsApp line or call us by phone.
How many locks can be fitted to a lockout hasp?
Depending on the model, capacity is 6, 8 or, on the large sliding models, up to 24 locks. For larger teams, lockout hasps can be chained or a group lock box can be used.
What is the difference between 25 mm and 38 mm jaws?
The jaw size determines the hole the lockout hasp can pass through and the thickness of the part. 25 mm is suitable for standard devices, and 38 mm for thick handles and wide holes.
Which hasp should be preferred on electrical panels?
At points with electrical risk, models with non-conductive plastic bodies, such as BD-K43/K44, should be preferred.
Does a lockout hasp replace a padlock?
No. A lockout hasp only creates a shared lockout point; each worker must fit their own safety padlock.
When can a lockout hasp be opened?
It can be opened only when the last lock on it is also removed; this way, energy cannot be restored until no one is left working in the team.
